With the practicals being dropped recently just wanted to clarify the position on allowing foundation candidates to use an Advanced license call sign and equipment. This statement has been released by the RSGB to clarify Supervised operation of Foundation candidatesCommunications Manager | October 29, 2021We wish to retain the possibility for Foundation candidates to receive practical on-air training, under supervision, to illustrate the operating and licensing parts of the syllabus, although there is now no necessity to formally assess this.Before any Foundation student is allowed to operate a station under supervision, in accordance with Licence clause 3(3)(a), they must be registered on a recognised Foundation Licence Training Course, with a planned exam date.Licence clause 17 (dd) defines what a recognised Foundation course is i.e.“Recognised Foundation Training Course” means a training course which, if successfully completed, will lead to the person attending the course being issued with a Radio Amateurs’ Examination Pass Certificate which confirms that that person has achieved the level of competence required by Ofcom to be issued with a Foundation Licence;”Ofcom’s “Amateur Radio Licence – guidance” document in clause 2.50 further states:“If the Licence is an Amateur Radio (Full) or a Full (Club) Licence, a person on a Recognised Foundation Training Course as defined in clause 17(dd) of the licence, may use the station. This relates to the period of formal instruction. It is not intended to cover a licensee who decides to allow an unqualified person to use the station at any other time that they may choose.”It will be the responsibility each licensee (club or individual) to satisfy themselves that the supervised operation complies with the terms and conditions of the licence. Examples of how they might do this are to see evidence of a confirmed exam booking or evidence (e.g. an email from the course organiser) that the candidate is registered on a recognised training course as defined above.Tony Kent, G8PBHChair, Examination Standards CommitteeBasically nothing has changed and if a candidate is on a registered course with an exam date set then he/she can operate a radio under supervision.
Full licenses Exam to be held
IOMARS is pleased to be able to announce we will be conducting an Advanced License Exam on Sunday 17th February 2019 at the shack in Ballasalla at 14:00 hours . There is obviously a course running at present by Richard GD8EXI with a refresh on the Saturday and Sunday . The exam is open to all who have passed the intermediate and the costs are as follows. Members who have paid their subscritptions on or after the AGM in December 2018 £37.50 non members £47.50 to cover the cost of the hall. Application forms and payments must be received no later than the 30th January 2019 cheques should be made payable to IOMARS. Any issue get in touch with any member of the committee or drop down to the shack on Wednesday nights. Look forward to hearing a whole new bunch of A class licensees.
Exam papers have arrived
Just to advise candidates that the exam papers for this weekend have arrived. Please make sure your at the shack for the exam by no later than 13:30 to ensure we get everyone settled. The foundation candidates I expect will already be there finishing the course. Please remember all practicals must be completed so if there are any outstanding please make sure your at the shack this Wednesday to get them completed. IOMARS please to announce new Foundation Course in December
IOMARS are running a foundation course based at the Shack in Ballasalla on Wednesday nights. The theory course will be on the 8/9 the of December at the shack with the exam at 14:00 on Sunday the 9th December 2018. The cost will be £27.50 for members and £37.50 for non members. We can’t do the practical on air until you are registered and need to give at least 2 weeks notice to the RSGB for the exam. I would ask you to fill in the attached application form ASAP and get it to the IOMARS along with payment either via the shack on Wednesday or any committee member. We will not be able to take any applications after November the 24th. It will be in time for Christmas so you can tell your relatives you want that new rig for Christmas.Any queries please email iomars@manx.net
Attention all Intermediate exam Candidates
Ok Guys big day tomorrow 9 new intermediate licenses expected no pressure there ;). The exam is at 17:00 and the Shack will be open and manned from 16:00. Do NOT be late also ensure you have some sort of formal photo id like a driving license or passport plus pencil, calculator (not Phone) and rubber. You will also require your green practical slips without the ID and slips we can not let you sit the exam. Good Luck Nigel

Just a reminder all that the intermediate course starts tomorrow 09:00 at the Shack, Mill Road, Ballasalla, IM9 2EG make sure you have manuals , pens paper, calculator etc .Exam is a week on Sunday enjoy look forward to seeing you all there.

A message to all perspective Intermediate Course candidates
As of this moment I have one completed candidate form and accompanying cheque. I need to get the candidates registered two weeks before the exam so the cut off date will be 09:00 Monday 10th of September. If you need my home address to send in the mail please PM or email me I will send you the details. I suggest that candidates start reading the Manual we have 8 copies at the club that we can loan out if you need them. I am hoping to issue more details shortly especially on the practicals in the hope we can get them done before the Course weekends leaving more time for theory.

Intermediate Exam now available for booking
Well All after months of promising we are now able to offer an intermediate Course and Exam to be held over 2 weekends and a Wednesday evening at the Shack in Ballasalla.The dates in Question are Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd of September 09:00 to 17:00,Wednesday the 26th September 19:00 to 20:30 and Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September 09:00 to 17:00 .
